ROXANE
Written by Nadia Cavelle
Directed by Oliver Dawe & Nadia Cavelle
Three siblings come together in a ritual game of make-believe in which they re-enact their mother’s life in an attempt to understand the impact she had on them. The only thing she left behind - tapes, each with the title of a chapter of her unrecorded memoir.
As per the rules of their game, the siblings pull straws to determine who becomes the mother and who voices the family members with whom she interacts via kitchen appliances: the husband is a toaster, the mother-in-law a blender, the children (the siblings themselves) two jugs and a scale. Prompted by the tapes they hand pick, the siblings fill in the blanks, exploring their mother’s childhood, marriage and relationship with them.
